Sterling Oehlschlager carves solid hardwood into lighting at 780 East Cordova Street in East Vancouver: the Nimbus linear pendant from $1,780 CAD cut from a single piece of hardwood, the stepped-baffle Apollo pendant from $2,240, the Arborlux and Chaparral families of pendants, wall sconces, $550 table lamps and floor lamps to $2,450 that pair carved wood with hand-blown glass spheres, plus replacement globes, G4 12V LED bulbs and dimmable drivers.

Oehl's pendants and wall sconces are electric ceiling and wall lighting fittings built to run solely on LED sources, HTS 9405.11.80 on the CBP Section 338 list, so every Nimbus, Apollo, Arborlux or Chaparral fixture shipped to an American customer carries a 50% duty on top of the price, in effect since August 22, 2026 — $1,120 on the $2,240 Apollo Pendant. The Arborlux and Chaparral table and floor lamps join them at 50% under HTS 9405.21.80 when the list expands on September 15, 2026. The studio sells straight into that market — "Yes! We offer standard international shipping to the UK and USA", with a United States / USD option in the store's country selector and 120V LED drivers listed for USA and Canada — and has published nothing about the measure. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026

Isabelle Auger has been bending Canadian wood veneer into lamps in a Grover building studio on rue Parthenais in Montreal since 2010 — the ALBA, PERLA, PERA and FLORA collections of hanging lamps, PETULA wall lamps, and sixteen plug-in table lamps topping out at $330, among them the eleven-inch Alba at $250, oak veneer over a solid wood base with an eight-foot cord, switch and plug — shapes drawn from flowers, fruit, bulbs and nuts.

HTS 9405.29.80Table and floor lamps50% from Sep 15, 2026

Atelier Cocotte's table lamps — wood veneer bodies on solid wood bases, wired with a cord, switch and plug and an E12 socket that takes any bulb up to a 60-watt equivalent — are electric table lamps not of base metal and not designed for use solely with LED sources, HTS 9405.29.80, which Annex II of the September 8 proclamation adds to the Section 338 list at a 50% additional duty on goods entered "on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern time on September 15, 2026". On the $250 Alba lamp in oak that is $125 in duty before shipping. Auger has published nothing about the measure, and the shop still offers to quote "shipping outside of Canada" on request. · whitehouse.gov, Sep 8, 2026

Durham's beds, dressers, chests, night stands and armoires are wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom, HTS 9403.50.90, and its occasional tables are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80 — both on the CBP Section 338 list, both carrying a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026. The company sells into that market through a dealer network and a permanent showroom at 220 South Elm Street in High Point, North Carolina. Four days after the duty took effect the Owen Sound Sun-Times named the firm in its coverage of the tariffs: "Calls to the largest wood furniture manufacturers in Grey-Bruce, Durham Furniture, in Durham and West Bros. Furniture, in Hanover, were not returned by the time of publication Wednesday. Both sell solid wood furniture into the United States." The Wood Manufacturing Cluster of Ontario, of which Durham is a member, told the paper that members exporting exclusively to the U.S. "are down by 40 per cent and restructuring." Durham Furniture has published nothing itself. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026

That falls across half the company's dealer base: "We serve over 200 authorized furniture retailers across Canada and the United States, supply leading North American furniture brands through OEM manufacturing partnerships, and provide custom furniture solutions for commercial, hospitality, and institutional clients worldwide." On August 26, 2026 the Owen Sound Sun-Times named West Bros among the largest wood furniture manufacturers in Grey-Bruce and reported that the company did not return its calls; the Wood Manufacturing Cluster of Ontario, which counts West Bros a member, told the paper that members exporting exclusively to the U.S. "are down by 40 per cent and restructuring." The company is still hiring in Hanover and has published nothing about the duty. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026
