Lorette C. Her hand-executed paintings fall under HTS 9701.91.00 and her collage paintings under 9701.99.00, both on the CBP Section 338 list carrying a 50% duty since August 22, 2026. Americans are her biggest buyers and in some years close to half her income; the weekend the duty landed, a C$450 twelve-inch square she had just sold came with $263 in shipping and tariff, more than half the sale price. She paid it herself rather than surprise the buyer, and now asks American clients to phone or email so the two of them can split the cost.
