June Hunter photographs the crows, ravens and garden birds of her East Vancouver blocks and turns them into $33 signed fine art prints on archival lustre photo paper, $21 hardbound notebooks, $24 sets of twelve crow postcards, the annual City Crow Calendar, plus coasters, mouse pads, glass pendants, silk scarves and needle-felted wool crows she makes by hand.
Almost everything in my shop is now tariffed at 50% for US customers, as is the work of many of my fellow Canadian artists and craftspeople.Source: instagram.com, Aug 23, 2026
Her fine art photographic prints fall under HTS 4911.91.40 and her hardbound notebooks under 4820.10.20, both on the CBP Section 338 list carrying a 50% duty since August 22, 2026. About half her customers are American. She first pulled nearly everything but the calendars from US sale, then reopened the shop with the duty built into the price: the policy page now reads "a 50% price increase is included with the prices for US customers in order to cover the tariff costs", and calendars and books, which are not on the list, carry no surcharge.
In their own words
The new 50% tariffs are going to be hard on lots of us, including micro Canadian art/craft businesses like mine.

The day after the duty took effect she listed for her followers the art categories caught by it, from paintings to notebooks to sculpture.
The loss of US customers is somewhat heartbreaking — not just financially, but also because I’ve come to know many of my US customers as friends over many years.

What the American half of her order book means to her beyond the money.
Weirdly, it seems that calendars... of any kind are not listed
June Hunter, quoted by John Vennavally-Rao, CTV News · cp24.com, Aug 24, 2026
The one product she could keep selling to Americans when the duty first landed, because calendars are not on the Section 338 list.
We’ll still keep in touch, but the financial hit will be rough.

On the American customers of fifteen years she had just stopped selling to.
Thanks so much to all the Canadian customers who ordered prints this week after seeing my work on CTV News on Monday.

Canadian orders came in after the CTV segment aired on August 24, and she posted to say the prints were going out.
US Customers: Since the imposition of a 50% US tariff on many items in the shop (prints, woollen crows, notebooks, bags, pendants) a 50% price increase is included with the prices for US customers in order to cover the tariff costs.

Where the shop landed: American buyers can order again, with the duty already in the price.

Made in Canada
The photographs and the printing both happen in Vancouver: the postcard sets are "printed on lustre card stock here in Vancouver, Canada", and she says "Most of my bird photographs are taken in the few blocks around my urban home, with occasional trips to the nearby mountains."
