Oehl's pendants and wall sconces are electric ceiling and wall lighting fittings built to run solely on LED sources, HTS 9405.11.80 on the CBP Section 338 list, so every Nimbus, Apollo, Arborlux or Chaparral fixture shipped to an American customer carries a 50% duty on top of the price, in effect since August 22, 2026 — $1,120 on the $2,240 Apollo Pendant. Steve Meschino has been salvaging storm-felled and development-cleared Ontario hardwood since 2006 and building it into one-off tables at his King, Ontario studio: live edge and straight edge dining tables up to twelve feet in black walnut, white ash and white oak, spalted maple coffee tables, a silver maple desk, walnut console tables, boardroom and conference tables with brass inlay and cable access, each on a steel base and finished by hand in a natural oil finish.

Cherrywood's dining, coffee, console, conference and office tables are other wooden furniture under HTS 9403.60.80 on the CBP Section 338 list, carrying a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026. The studio says it serves “Canada and the USA” and its own galleries show work that has crossed the border - one walnut dining table “custom made for a New York home”, another “Designed for a client in Manhattan, NY”, a black walnut desk “Designed for a client in Rhode Island” - though its FAQ notes that “Shipping beyond Ontario is evaluated case-by-case.” On a custom table in the several-thousand-dollar range the duty is half the price again before delivery. Fortunato and Athena Taddei build a 105-piece catalogue in Okotoks, Alberta: the $2,200 Big Horn Coffee Table and $575 Colt accent tables in solid black walnut and ash, sixteen hardwood-and-cowhide benches from the $1,400 Longview to the $2,900 Blairmore, the Bison Lounge Chair, Cumulus wood-and-cowhide trays, wood Elk, Doe, Longhorn and Fawn lamp bases from $370 to $1,330, and some thirty designer lamp shades, most $250, printed on 100% cotton over styrene.

Taddei's coffee and accent tables are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80 on the CBP Section 338 list, and its cotton-on-styrene lamp shades are parts of luminaires under HTS 9405.99.40 — both carrying a 50% duty on top of the price since August 22, 2026, which puts $1,100 of duty on the $2,200 Big Horn Coffee Table and $125 on a $250 shade. The wood floor and table lamp bases join them at 50% under HTS 9405.29.80 when the list expands on September 15, 2026. Brodie and Jay run a full-circle mill and millwork shop on Avondale Street in Hamilton, keeping a slab library of more than 200 kiln-dried, CNC-flattened boards in maple, box elder, black walnut, white oak, red oak, butternut and ash, and building from them solid hardwood dining tables, boardroom and console tables, benches, desks, bar and counter tops from slabs flattened up to 56 inches wide, floating shelves, bespoke kitchen cabinetry, rift-sawn white oak vanities and built-in shelving, with kiln drying from $1.50 a board foot and shop time at $90 an hour for anyone bringing their own wood.

Crown Point's tables, desks, benches and shelving are other wooden furniture under HTS 9403.60.80 and its slab library is sawn hardwood over 6 mm thick under HTS 4407.99.02, both on the CBP Section 338 list at a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026; the September 15, 2026 expansion adds HTS 9403.40.60, wooden kitchen furniture, at the same 50%, the line the shop's flagship custom kitchen cabinetry sits on. The shop's own shipping policy already tells buyers that “For orders shipped outside of Canada (e.g., to the United States), the customer is solely responsible for any import duties, customs clearance fees, or local taxes assessed by border agencies.” A walnut slab priced at up to $3,400 on the shop's own inventory page therefore lands at an American door with half its value again added at the border. Julia Veenstra paints Canadian landscapes, barns, florals and cows in thick acrylic strokes on canvas out of a converted garage at her home on Hamilton's beach strip, and sells each image four ways beyond the original: an embellished giclee with real paint strokes added back by hand, a plain giclee on archival canvas, an archival watercolour print and a poster on glossy heavy paper.

Veenstra's originals are paintings executed entirely by hand, HTS 9701.91.00 on the CBP Section 338 list, and the giclees, watercolour prints and posters she strikes from them are printed pictures under HTS 4911.91.40 on the same list, so a 50% additional US duty has applied to both since August 22, 2026. In her own words, "For every one of my paintings, I offer the following print purchase options suited to your budget" — which means there is no price point in the shop an American buyer can reach without the duty. Wooden dining tables, desks, credenzas, shelving and media centres are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80, and the shop's king beds and nightstands are wooden bedroom furniture, HTS 9403.50.90; both lines carry an additional 50% US duty under Section 338, in effect since August 22, 2026. Those duties land on real orders: in a Woodworking Canada profile written before the duty, David Shaw said "And in California we have a lot of clients we deal with directly" and "we ship it directly to them and we give them the white-glove treatment". On a live-edge and resin dining table the shop values at $10,000, the 50% duty is $5,000 before freight.
