Marie-Orphée Duval and Valérie Duquette hand-feed an 1892 Chandler & Price platen press in a Mercier workshop southwest of Montreal, printing 52-page dot-grid sewn notebooks, spiral notebooks and undated planners, gold-stamped 8 x 10 botanical posters like "Affiche – Botanique Citrons", greeting cards and bookmarks, alongside small-batch soy-wax candles hand-poured into ceramic, concrete and glass vessels and a small run of pottery.

Bound notebooks, diaries and letter pads are HTS 4820.10.20, printed pictures and designs are HTS 4911.91.40 and candles are HTS 3406.00.00, all three on the CBP Section 338 list at a 50% additional US duty since August 22, 2026. Pigeon ships south — its shipping page prices "Livraison aux É.-U. (sur le continent seulement)" at $15 to $50 CAD a parcel and the storefront carries a $USD toggle — so an American buying the $11.50 Botanica notebook, the $25 botanical poster or a hand-poured soy-wax candle now pays half again in duty at the border. Isabelle Auger has been bending Canadian wood veneer into lamps in a Grover building studio on rue Parthenais in Montreal since 2010 — the ALBA, PERLA, PERA and FLORA collections of hanging lamps, PETULA wall lamps, and sixteen plug-in table lamps topping out at $330, among them the eleven-inch Alba at $250, oak veneer over a solid wood base with an eight-foot cord, switch and plug — shapes drawn from flowers, fruit, bulbs and nuts.

Atelier Cocotte's table lamps — wood veneer bodies on solid wood bases, wired with a cord, switch and plug and an E12 socket that takes any bulb up to a 60-watt equivalent — are electric table lamps not of base metal and not designed for use solely with LED sources, HTS 9405.29.80, which Annex II of the September 8 proclamation adds to the Section 338 list at a 50% additional duty on goods entered "on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern time on September 15, 2026". On the $250 Alba lamp in oak that is $125 in duty before shipping. Out of its plant at Lac-Mégantic in the Eastern Townships, Bestar builds ready-to-assemble furniture in engineered wood and melamine: fold-down Murphy wall beds and freestanding cabinet beds (the Murphy Cabinet Bed with Pullout Drawer runs $1,785), Murphy beds with storage, desks or a sofa, modular Florence closet systems, desks, office storage and home entertainment units, in the Avalon, Barletta, Florence, Nebula and Pur collections.

Bestar’s Murphy beds and cabinet beds are wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom, HTS 9403.50.90, and its closet systems and home entertainment units are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80 — both lines on the CBP Section 338 list, both carrying a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026. Bestar ships south itself: "Bestar can only deliver products within the contiguous United States and Canada." The Murphy Cabinet Bed with Pullout Drawer lists from $1,785, and the duty is 50% of the declared value of every bed that crosses. The company has already been through one round of this. Its former parent eSolutions stopped manufacturing on May 1, 2026, citing "worsening financial conditions since 2021, including U.S. tariffs, reduced post-pandemic demand, increased offshore competition and ongoing cash constraints", and its lender Desjardins moved to have a receiver appointed; a Quebec court then approved the sale of the Lac-Mégantic plant to a group of local investors and all 157 unionized workers were recalled. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026

Inglasco presses and decorates the vulcanized rubber pucks used on the ice by every NHL, PWHL, AHL and ECHL team, from sensor-equipped official game pucks through warmup, souvenir and insert pucks, and prints a large licensed catalogue of drinkware, flags, pennants, keychains and collectibles alongside them.

Hockey pucks are ice hockey articles and equipment other than balls and skates, HTS 9506.99.25 on the CBP Section 338 list, so every Sherbrooke-finished puck Inglasco sends to an American team, rink or retailer carries a 50% duty on top of the price, in effect since August 22, 2026. Most of the leagues Inglasco supplies on an exclusive basis, the NHL, AHL and ECHL, play the bulk of their games in the United States.
