Brandy Fedoruk and Rebecca Dolen have been drawing, printing and hand-assembling paper goods on Main Street since 2005: $9 staple-bound composition notebooks — Map of Canada, Vancouver, Victoria, Atlantic Coast — each "inspired by vintage school composition books from days gone by" with "14 pages of plain recycled paper", grid and checklist notepads of roughly 50 recycled pages, letter-writing sets with coloured envelopes, postcard packs, buttons, magnets and a rack of more than 150 greeting card designs.
Bound notebooks and memorandum pads are HTS 4820.10.20 on the CBP Section 338 list, carrying a 50% additional duty since August 22, 2026. That lands on the wholesale side of a two-shop stationery store that has been supplying American retailers for nearly twenty years — "We also wholesale most of the products designed by us to other lovely retail shops across Canada, the United States and overseas" — and on anything they send to American customers themselves. Written in June 2025, more than a year before the Section 338 duty, as the buy-Canadian shift reached the shop floor; it is not a comment on the duty itself.
It feels good to be able to say “yes, all our cards and products that we design are printed locally & assembled right here”… as they always have been.

The shop's own summary of itself is that "We design, manufacture and assemble all our products in our shops", and Fedoruk spelled out what that means when Canadians started asking: "yes, all our cards and products that we design are printed locally & assembled right here" — the printing handled a few blocks away by Benny of Quality Printing, who they have worked with since the store opened.

The shop's Notebooks collection lists ten designs, each described as "This little notebook is inspired by vintage school composition books from days gone by. Contains 14 pages of plain recycled paper. Measures 5 ¼” x 7” and is staple bound", and its Notepads collection eight, including one that "measures 5 ½ x 8 ½” and has approximately 50 pages of recycled paper". Staple-bound notebooks and glued memorandum pads of paper fall under HTS 4820.10.20 on the CBP Section 338 list.
