Durham Furniture builds solid wood bedroom suites — beds, dressers, chests, night stands, armoires and mirrors — plus occasional tables, in collections named Caledon, Chateau Fontaine, Front Street, George Washington Architect, Hudson Falls, Lakeridge, Savile Row, Springville and Vineyard Creek, with English dovetail drawers, corner blocks screwed and glued into every case, mortise and tenon joints at the parting rails, raised panels floating on spacing balls, and solid wood bed rails shipped with hardwood slats.

Durham's beds, dressers, chests, night stands and armoires are wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom, HTS 9403.50.90, and its occasional tables are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80 — both on the CBP Section 338 list, both carrying a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026. The company sells into that market through a dealer network and a permanent showroom at 220 South Elm Street in High Point, North Carolina. Four days after the duty took effect the Owen Sound Sun-Times named the firm in its coverage of the tariffs: "Calls to the largest wood furniture manufacturers in Grey-Bruce, Durham Furniture, in Durham and West Bros. Furniture, in Hanover, were not returned by the time of publication Wednesday. Both sell solid wood furniture into the United States." The Wood Manufacturing Cluster of Ontario, of which Durham is a member, told the paper that members exporting exclusively to the U.S. "are down by 40 per cent and restructuring." West Bros builds bedroom, dining, workspace and occasional pieces to order at 582 14th Street in Hanover, Ontario — the Adler, Camber, Corsa, Curva, Fulton, Jensen, Phase and Serra collections of beds, dressers, night stands, dining tables and desks — cut from white oak, walnut, maple and cherry, with every drawer box in the plant built from solid maple using English dovetail construction.

West Bros' beds, dressers and night stands are wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom, HTS 9403.50.90, and its dining tables and occasional pieces are other wooden furniture, HTS 9403.60.80 — both on the CBP Section 338 list, both carrying a 50% additional duty on entry to the United States since August 22, 2026. That falls across half the company's dealer base: "We serve over 200 authorized furniture retailers across Canada and the United States, supply leading North American furniture brands through OEM manufacturing partnerships, and provide custom furniture solutions for commercial, hospitality, and institutional clients worldwide." On August 26, 2026 the Owen Sound Sun-Times named West Bros among the largest wood furniture manufacturers in Grey-Bruce and reported that the company did not return its calls; the Wood Manufacturing Cluster of Ontario, which counts West Bros a member, told the paper that members exporting exclusively to the U.S. "are down by 40 per cent and restructuring." Intermiel works 5,000 hives on the same Saint-Benoit de Mirabel land it has farmed for fifty years and bottles the crop as "Miel brut de printemps" and autumn raw honey, "Miel en rayon brut" comb honey and single-flower liquid honeys — clover, raspberry, blueberry, goldenrod, buckwheat, wildflower — from 150 g jars up to 300 kg drums, alongside a room of honey wines (Médiéval, Rosée, Verge d'or, Bouquet Printanier), an api-gin and honey vodka, cider, propolis, soaps and candles.

Natural honey is HTS 0409.00.00 on the CBP Section 338 list and honey wine is a fermented beverage under HTS 2206.00.90, both carrying a 50% additional duty since August 22, 2026. Intermiel's entry in the Groupe Export Agroalimentaire member directory names "États-Unis" among the markets it ships "hydromels (vins de miel), alcool d'érable, cidres de glace, eaux-de-vie, miel" to, so its two biggest lines both cross the border into that duty. Out of its plant at Lac-Mégantic in the Eastern Townships, Bestar builds ready-to-assemble furniture in engineered wood and melamine: fold-down Murphy wall beds and freestanding cabinet beds (the Murphy Cabinet Bed with Pullout Drawer runs $1,785), Murphy beds with storage, desks or a sofa, modular Florence closet systems, desks, office storage and home entertainment units, in the Avalon, Barletta, Florence, Nebula and Pur collections.

Bestar ships south itself: "Bestar can only deliver products within the contiguous United States and Canada." The Murphy Cabinet Bed with Pullout Drawer lists from $1,785, and the duty is 50% of the declared value of every bed that crosses. The company has already been through one round of this. Its former parent eSolutions stopped manufacturing on May 1, 2026, citing "worsening financial conditions since 2021, including U.S. tariffs, reduced post-pandemic demand, increased offshore competition and ongoing cash constraints", and its lender Desjardins moved to have a receiver appointed; a Quebec court then approved the sale of the Lac-Mégantic plant to a group of local investors and all 157 unionized workers were recalled. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026
